Pompei – Positano – Sorrento – a visit to the world renown archaeological site of Pompei the City that was completely destroyed, being preserved as it was by the volcanic lava, in the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D.  Walk around the streets and houses getting a feel of what people lived like in this bygone age, visit the amphitheatre and imagine the gladiators and lions fighting to the death.

Continue the day with a visit to Positano, with its breathtaking views situated along the beautiful Amalfi coastline.  There are some spectacular views to be seen and photographed whilst walking along this hilly town well know for its fashions.

Finally, arrive in Sorrento also a world renown holiday destination, known as land of the mermaids. Visit the historical centre, the cathedral and the Church of Saint Antonino, the Patron Saint and Protector of the town.  There are lots of souvenirs to be purchased here from the very famous lemon liquor (Limoncello) to the artistic objects made from the masters of inlaid woodwork art.

Following the road out of Amalfi we climb even further into the hills, passing the landscape which is lined by the grape vines and visit the lovely area of Ravello.  Look at the two  villas  and imagine the classical summer concerts that take place here.

Paestum – Salerno City– A visit to this archaeological City which was built by the Grecian navigators in the 7th Century B.C. and walk around the Temple of Neptune (God of the Sea) from the 5th Century.

Staying in Paestum there is time to visit the Mozzarella Factory where you will see this world renown cheese being made and get to taste some.  This area is very famous for the Buffalo mozzarella.

Continue into the City of Salerno visiting its churches and monuments and also be told about the Artistic light display that is here during the Festive Season.

Take time out to have a relaxing lunch during the day in one of the many restaurants along route.


Sorrento Countryside – Amalfi Coast - take a drive up to  the hills above Sorrento visiting the villages of Massa Lubrense and its picturesque fishing port with its typical restaurants and bars. Continue further into the hills and visit Sant’Agata sui due Golfi (on the two gulfs). This area is well known for the view it gives of the Gulf of Salerno and the Gulf of Naples on the opposite side.

Why not take time out to enjoy a glass of limoncello made from the lemons of this area.

Taking this scenic road out of Sant’Agata we take the spectacular Amalfi coast road into Amalfi when there will be time to stop and take photographs of the breathtaking backdrops along this route.

In Amalfi there is time to walk around the square which is dominated by the Cathedral.

Climbing up from the town of Herculaneum we take the ever upward road to Vesuvius the dormant volcano that caused so much destruction in 79 A.D.  We leave the car towards the top to continue on foot to the summit of the volcano to peer into its crater.

Amalfi – Vietri sul Mare – Ravello– This is a wonderful day taking in some of the jewels of the Amalfi coastline.  Visit Amalfi with its picturesque square being dominated by the Arabian-Norman style cathedral.  Continue with your visit to Vietri sul Mare and look around the factory and museum of the artistic ceramic industry with a view to taking an authentic souvenir home with you.

 

Then we leave the main coastal road below us and drive up through the roads where you can see many terraces of vines growing until we reach Ravello.  Enjoy visiting the two villas of this area and in the gardens of the Villa Rufolo imagine the wonderful summer classical concerts that take place from here in the open air with a  fantastic view of the bay below.

Herculaneum – Naples City– Start your day with a visit to Herculaneum, the town that was destroyed alongside Pompei in the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. After visiting the archaeological site and imagining how life was in days gone by we continue our day with a stop in the City of Naples.  Look around the City’s churches and momuments and visit the underground City below the streets.  Walk along ‘Spaccanapoli’ which is the road that divides the City in two with its quaint shops and artistic ‘presepe’ pieces. (presepe – navity statues).

Take time out during the day, not only for a relaxing drink along route but also the famous Neapolitan Pizza.
